  6. I found the article below on CIS. I don't know where the author
  7. got the information below, but it's FASCINATING. Anyone have the
  8. guts to try this? you can reach the author at the CIS Internet
  9. address on the bottom line, just before my .signature.

  12.                         AR-1000 Reset Procedure

  15. * What you need :
  16.  
  17.         - A small Philips screwdriver
  18.         - A soldering iron (30 W max)
  19.  
  20. * What to do :
  21.  
  22.         - Remove the antenna
  23.         - Remove the batteries
  24.         - Remove the tuning, volume, and squelch buttons
  25.         - Remove the back cover (4 black screws), and disconnect it from
  26.           the rest
  27.         - Lay the unit flat on the table, keyboard and display below,
  28.           antenna connector away from you
  29.         - Unsolder the black wire from the lower right corner of
  30.           the upper board
  31.         - Unsolder the brown wire from the upper left corner of the same
  32.           board
  33.         - Remove the 3 screws that hold this board
  34.         - Pull GENTLY this board out of the upper panel (volume, squelch,
  35.           and tune rods come with the board - not the antenna connector)
  36.         - Unsolder the black wire from the upper left corner of the middle
  37.           board
  38.         - Unscrew the 3 copper columns that hold this board
  39.         - To get a better access on the lower board, you may wish to remove
  40.           some of the connectors that link the upper and middle boards to
  41.           the power supply board (the one that hides the speaker) --- don't
  42.           forget to take note of which connector goes where !!!
  43.         - Now take a look at the lower board. It looks like this :
